Whatever You Say I Am, I’m Okay

“I do not reread books. I’m lazy like that, I suppose. Plus, I have a lots of books remaining on my yet-to-read shelf, so it discourages me from reading stuff I’ve already read. Thus, know that since I wanted to reread this one, it is a very, very good read.”

That excerpt from the book Whatever You Say I am, I’m Okay (WYSIAIO) by Anwar Hadi is so relatable because for the past few weeks, I have been rereading, searching and buying books I’ve already read (Catatan Matluthfi, Langit Vanilla, Harry Potter series and WYSIAIO).

Whatever You Say I Am, I’m Okay by Anwar Hadi

I borrowed WYSIAIO from my roommate during my undergraduate years. I have been loving the book ever since and I even remembered crying while reading it. I wanted to reread it again and add it to my collection but here’s come the dilemma. I wanted to buy it but I felt like it would be a waste of money since I already read it and instead of buying it, isn’t it better to spent the money on new books that I’ve not read? You feel me? But it such a good read! I still want to reread it and nothing could ever stop me! The solution? I purchased it from Carousell, a good platform to sell and buy preloved items such as books, clothes, shoes and bags.

I genuinely did not know why people would resell their books because I am that type of person that loves to collect books, the good and even the bad one. Hence, I just assumed that they hate the books, while this may be true for some, the previous owner of Langit Vanilla told me he resells his books after he has done reading them because he knows he is not going to reread them. The money received from selling his old books was then used to buy a new one. Brilliant! However, I could never. I love my collection so much but thanks to these kinds of people, I could buy books in much cheaper ways so yeay!

Back to the book. WYSIAIO is a light read and consisted of two parts, Whatever You Say I Am (non-fiction) and I’m Okay (fiction, consisted of 21 short stories). The fiction part was not as good as the former except for A friend Made, that story made me smile, and Salty Coffee (one of the characters were crying while drinking coffee. Get it? Salty Coffee. Genius).

“On our last day on Earth, what is going to shine through is not how many personal achievements we have attained but how many hearts we were able to touch.”

Page 43, Salty Coffe

Other fictions especially One Night in Ramadan didn’t really give me an impact and felt like most the stories didn’t have any messages or maybe I am just too stupid to understand so I won’t comment much about that.

Moving on. I just wanted to share some quotes that I love from the non-fiction part. I hope I could share all of them but might as well as put pictures of all the 23 non-fictions lol. I have so many favourites such as Interesting Ferry Moments, Ask Yourself, Birthday, Poetry Recital, You will be Missed and more! Full of good messages and life lessons. I do hope that I could write like him someday. It is a good book to give as gift.

“And when at times of dire despair, when all hope seems lost, when you think you’ve reached your limit, think that it’s all too much, ask yourself, “Who knows you better? Yourself? Or The One that created you? The One that knows the past to your past, knows the future to your future and has been responsible for making your existence even possible?” Know the answer to that, and you can still smile at the end of the day, ‘coz you know that you’re in good hands. The best hands. His Hands.”

Page 20, Ask Yourself

“But what does one do when one is down? What one can do– get up. Crawl, if one has to. One needs to. For themselves. For the love of God.”

Page 53, I Am Man?

“Isn’t the most deserved person to be celebrated during our birthday is the “heroine” herself? The one who struggled for 9 months and 10 days with the extra ‘luggage’ in her tummy. Yeah, her. The person who cheated death while delivering the baby. The one who suffered the bruises and cuts just to make sure that her labour of love see the light ‘at the end of the tunnel’…. So, if our next birthday comes by, …. Who is the most deserving person to receive a gift? Who should be given cake and treated to their favorite meal instead? Let’s think about it.”

Catatan Matluthfi by Matluthfi

I owned a copy of Catatan Matluthfi before but I donated it along with other books to the library after I finished with my study in USM (thanks to the expensive fees of Air Asia checked baggage). I regretted the decision quickly after, should have kept this one but everything was too late. I was already across the South China Sea.

While I was searching for WYSIAIO, one of the seller on Carousell was reselling both WYSIAIO and Catatan Mathluthfi. Hence, I purchased both of them and it only cost me RM25 including postage to Sabah/Sarawak. RM25 is usually a cost for one book. I hit jackpot! Here’s a short review; another light read, penulisan yang bersahaja, funny and inspiring.

Done. Yeap, finished and as you can see, I am really bad at writing reviews. Usually only managed to write a short one. Hence, I prefer to post it on my Insta Story instead of here. Basically, this is my attempt in trying to be more active on my blog. I am bound to go MIA again in the future but till then, let’s write and rant whatever.

p.s. Please pardon my limited vocabulary and bad grammar. I’m still learning and grammar-nazis are totally welcome here. Cheers.

How to Get Away with Murder

Please do not take the title literally. This post had nothing to do with tips or instructions on how to get away with murder. I was actually talking about the popular series with the same title on Netflix.

How to Get Away with Murder (HTGAWM) is my all time favorite series on Netflix. I am really bad at giving reasons and persuading people but nothing can stop me from mentioning and recommending this series to everyone and anyone subscribing to Netflix. It is a legal drama, thriller and mystery. If you like that genres, do give this series a chance or even if they are not your cup of tea, trust me, you would love it. It has a total of six seasons and none of them ever disappoint me or making me bored.

Even the ending was flawless and perfect. It gave me a proper and satisfactory closure. All of the characters received what they deserved. I love the good, the bad and the tragedies happening in all seasons. Nothing cliches ever happened. Bonus, I cried!

Not to mention, about all the talented actors and actress on the series especially Tegan Price (played by Amirah Vann), Ms. Pratt (played by Aja Naomi King) and of course, our beloved Professor Annalise Keating (played by Viola Davis). They successfully portrayed the personality of strong and powerful women. My favorite would be Ms. Pratt. She is stubborn, selfish, full of confidence, bad-tempered, very opinionated, independent, crazy and smart. She was able to argue passionately without crying (my emotional ass could never!). I would die for her confidence.

She was the one that honestly able to get away with murder but she ended up alone and no friends. I guess that what she got for being apologetically and genuinely her. Honestly, could not blame her because she survived alone on her own since childhood and she got to the place where she was now without the help of others.

Recommendation: Anime #2

This is the second part and I will try to make it short. Enjoy!

Acchi KocchiAired: April 2012.

Genres: Romantic comedy, slice of life.

Episodes: 12

Tsumiki is in love with Io but doesn’t want to be honest with her feelings. And Io is not aware of Tsumiki’s feelings towards him. They never wanted to be parted but haven’t become a couple yet. They have ‘more than friends, less than lovers’ kind of relationship.

My thoughts:

Cuteness overload. The anime is hilarious because all of the characters have funny reactions. How Hime gets nosebleed easily, Tsumiki’s reaction when Mayoi tease her for liking Io or when Io give her a pat on her head, just simply adorable. I especially like it when Mayoi and Sakaki, the prankster duo got injured. Lol. Their reactions was just priceless and they actually deserve it. Haha. 3.5/5 stars.

Attack on Titan

Aired: April 2013.

Episodes: 25 + 2 Ova + 2 Specials.

The story is about the adventure of Elen and his friends fighting with the Titans that destroyed their city and killed Elen’s mother. Elen vows to join the Survey Corps to kill all Titans and take revenge for all mankind.

My thoughts:

I usually prefer comedy or piece of life and this is my first time watching anime with this genres. I’m not disappointed at all. You know it is a good anime when you hardly blink when watching it. I even get cold sweat when watching this anime. Love it! 4/5 stars and the released for season 2 is still yet to be confirmed.

Aired: August 2012 and July 2013.

Episodes: 4 (Tortured Souls) + 1 (Missing Footage).

A group of friends decide to perform a charm called “Sachiko Ever After” and one of them made a mistake. This cause all of them to transport to alternate dimensions where an elementary school that was torn down (because of murders of several of its staff and students) still exist. In order to survive and find their way home, they need to figured out the truth and mystery behind the hunted school.

My thoughts:

A lot of killing. Blood everywhere. People dying. And this anime is rated 17+ because of its violence and profanity. Extremely unpleasant but still good. It’s actually adapted from a video game and maybe that’s why this anime is so short and only have 4 episodes and 1 OVA. I know about this anime when I was watching Pewdiepie played the game. 3/5 stars.

MushishiAired: October 2005.

My thoughts:

This anime is so different than the animes that I used to watch. I don’t know why but this anime is so relaxing despite all the supernatural occurrence or the mystery stuff. I really enjoy watching it. I love how Ginko, the Mushishi deal with the various type of Mushi. So, 4/5 stars.

The.Law.of.Ueki.Aired: April 2005.

All the students are given unique power and the winning candidate will become the new God of Heaven and the winning student can have any talent or power that they want.

My thoughts:

My all time favorite anime! Ueki was my first crush in anime. Lol. I started watching anime when I was around 13 to 15 years old and that’s when I know about The Law of Ueki. It was one of the earliest anime series I ever watched and I still love it. 4/5 stars!

Feel free to recommend me your favorite anime of all time or maybe the earliest anime you watched. Thanks for reading 🙂

Recommendation: BABYMETAL

I started watching anime again after I finished with college. One of the many reasons why I love watching anime is because their sound tracks are really catchy and funky. I admit that I’m a sucker for Japanese songs. Up-tempo, lively Japanese songs even though I do not understand a single word they said.

I love to listen to their fast beat music and if you are just like me, maybe you should try listening to BABYMETAL. They are Japanese metal vocal and dance group and the concept for the group is “fusion of metal and idol”. Doesn’t make any sense, huh? To make it simple, their genres are heavy metal and Jpop. Thus, Kawaii metal is produced.

The members consist of Yui Mizono (Yui-metal, 14), Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-metal, 16) and Moa Kikuchi (Mao-metal, 14). Shocking, eh? Despite of their young age, they are very talented. The lead vocals, Su-metal has such an amazing voice and the other two are full of energy and really good at making the crowd go crazy. I would love to go to their concert especially after I watched one of their videos, Gimme Chocolate. See it for yourself and they are actually pretty popular despite of all the weirdness.

I know about them when I watched TheFineBros‘s videos on Youtube called Youtuber React to BABYMETAL and I instantly fell in love with their music. Some people said that, BABYMETAL is a humiliation to metal, their songs are not “real” metal and weird, crappy bands. I’m not a metal-head and I know that Japanese made a lot of weird shit but BABYMETAL is not that bad.

The band members stated that their type of metal was a “newborn” genre and that was “baby” in BABYMETAL stood for. Try listening to Uki Uki Midnight and Line. You can see that their songs start cute and then metal and then back to cute. So many things happened in just one song. Haha.

Do you like them, hate them or just can’t decide yet because of so many weirdness for you to handle? Or maybe you can recommend me some of your favorite Japanese band 😀

Recommendation: Anime #1

It has been 2 months since I finished college and currently I’m a funemployee. For the past 2 months I had picked up a new hobby, watching anime. So, in this post I’m going to recommend some anime that I had seen and worth watching. FYI, I’m not really up to date so there are some anime that release years ago. Haha.  And the list I’m going to make is in random order. I also provide you with the link. Just click the tittle for each anime to watch it. Enjoy 😀

Aired: July 2013.

Genres: Sport (swimming).

Episodes: 12 + 3 (Special)

Free! starts with four boys—Haruka, Makoto, Nagisa and Rin—before they graduate from elementary school. They all participated in a swimming tournament and won, though they parted ways. Years later, Haruka, Makoto and Nagisa reunite when they enroll into high school. Not long after, Rin, who was thought to be in Australia, turns up and challenges Haruka to a race and wins. Afterward, Nagisa suggests creating a swimming club and using the run-down outdoor pool. Haruka, Makoto, and Nagisa, and later on, Rei, create the Iwatobi High School Swimming Club and work together to make the club a success. Rin’s victory over Haruka means nothing to him as he realizes that Haruka had stopped swimming competitively and wasn’t in top shape. He claims that he cannot get over the fact until Haruka competes against him for real. The members of the revived Iwatobi Swim Club later enter a swimming competition against Rin.

My Thought:

I love this anime because the graphic was really nice and this anime is such an eye candy because there are a lot of half naked guy in there. I mean, of course, what do you expect even the title called Iwatobi Swim Club. Haha. The word “Free” is actually come from the word freestyle (Swimming technique). The male lead, which is Haruka only swim freestyle. So yeah, I would give this anime 3.5/5 stars since I don’t really like the story line. It’s not suck but maybe because it was so short. It felt like it’s miss something but the second season of Free! already aired. It’s called Free! Enternal Summer. I hope it’s better than the first season. PS I love the ending song of this anime, really catchy. Haha.

Aired: April, 2012 (1st season) & October, 2013 (2nd season)

Genres: Sport (basketball), Comedy-drama.

Episodes: 25 (1st season) & 25 (2nd season)

The basketball team of Teikō Middle School rose to distinction by demolishing all competition. The regulars of the team became known as the “Generation of Miracles”. After graduating from middle school, these five stars went to different high schools with top basketball teams. However, a fact few know is that there was another player in the “Generation of Miracles”: a phantom sixth man. This mysterious player is now a freshman at Seirin High, a new school with a powerful, if little-known, team. Now, Kuroko Tetsuya, the sixth member of the “Generation of Miracles”, and Kagami Taiga, a naturally talented player who spent most of middle school in the US, are aiming to bring Seirin to the top of Japan, taking on Kuroko’s former teammates one by one.

My thought:

I enjoy every minutes watching this anime. It was breathtaking when watching them compete in the competition. I never knew that watching people plays sport would be so much fun. Bahaha. I’m not really into sport, I actually hate sport but anime is the only exception. LOL. This anime is a bit intense especially in the episode where Kuroko’s team compete with Aomine Daiki’s team, he was the ace in the “Generation of Miracles”. It is my favorite episode, I really love the story line and not to mention, funny too so 4.5/5 stars. I’m saving my 5. Haha. However, I still don’t know when will the third season going to be premiered.

Ao no Exorcist

Aired: 2011.

Genres: Comedy, Drama, Demons, Supernatural.

Episodes: 25 + 8 (special) + 1 (OVA)

Humans live in the world of Assiah, demons in Gehenna. The two dimensions are not meant to interfere with each other, but demons still possess creatures in Assiah in spite of this. The humans who can fight these demons are known as exorcists. Rin Okumura is a boy who bears the curse of being Satan’s illegitimate son. His foster father sacrificed himself to save him from demons. To avenge his foster father’s death as well as to prove himself, Rin decides to follow the path of an exorcist.

My thought:

One of my fave anime of all time. Rin is also one of my fave leads in anime. He is really funny and this anime have a really great story line. You just can’t predict the ending or the story. The graphic for this anime is amazing. I even cried when watching one of the episodes. Haha.  This anime is just pure awesome. I don’t mind watching it over and over again. Haha. So, 4/5 stars.

Aired: April 2005 (1st season) & June 2006 (2nd season).

Genres: Comedy-drama, Romance.

Episodes: 24 (1st season) & 12 (2nd season).

The story follows these 5 characters, Yūta Takemoto, Takumi Mayama, Shinobu Morita, Hagumi Hanamoto and  Ayumi Yamada in their love triangles,  unrequited love, graduating from college, finding jobs, and learning more about themselves.

My thought:

This anime is so not your normal family drama, cliche or whatever. And yes, this anime is old but it’s a goldie oldie. I actually prefer the old anime since anime nowadays are full of Ecchi (Anime that contain a lot of sexual innuendo), Hentai ( Anime whose central theme is explicit sex) and just sex sex sex. Just ughh. I am very satisfied with the ending since a lot of drama does not have a very good ending but this one was really great and sad at the same time. And yes, I cried. Haha. All of the characters were really funny, especially Morita (My fave). His character is also the opposite of Takemoto – The way they express their love. Yuta hides his feeling and tried to be friends at first while Morita just express his feelings freely and he just scare Hagu. Morita is just full retard. Hilarious but at the same time sad. *clap clap* . So, 4.5/5 stars.

Aired: April 2006.

Genres: Bishounen, Comedy, Drama, Harem, Romance, School.

Episodes: 26 episodes.

One day, Haruhi stumbles across the decidedly peculiar but very popular Ouran Host Club. She tries to leave, but accidentally breaks a vase, and unable to pay for it, she’s told that she’ll have to stay and do odd jobs. That is, until they decide she would be more valuable as a club member. Not realizing she’s female due to her appearance, they fix her up and give her a male uniform.  Haruhi, being average almost to a fault, doesn’t know what to make of the unconventional activities of the Host Club (or of the even more unconventional members), but having little choice, she plays along. Before long, real bonds are formed, friends made, and Haruhi finds herself accepted in a way she could never have been otherwise in this affluent school.

My thought:

I would love to recommend this anime to anyone who is still new or never watch anime before because this anime is so relaxing and just hilarious. Haha. There are also a lil bit of love triangle there. The graphic is not that great since this anime is old but it didn’t bother me at all since the the anime was really funny. One of the funniest anime I had ever watched. And I also like the opening and ending song of this anime. Haha. 4/5 stars.

This is just some of the anime which I already finish watching. I will probably make another recommendation on anime. So yeah, I highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for good animes. Feel free to recommend me some of your favorite. Thank you for reading 🙂
